Anthropic has expanded Claude Cowork, its AI-powered work platform, beyond the desktop. The platform is now available on iOS, Android, and in web browsers. Until now, Cowork was exclusively accessible through the desktop app for macOS and Windows.

The rollout starts with users on the Max subscription tier. Other plans are set to follow in the coming weeks, though Anthropic has not announced a specific date for the broader launch.

Cloud Execution and Mobile Notifications

With this update, tasks run in the cloud by default instead of locally. The practical benefit: closing your laptop or switching devices no longer interrupts a session in progress. Desktop users will still be able to switch to local processing if they prefer.

Another new feature lets Claude send notifications directly to your phone when a task finishes or needs your input. This reduces the need to actively monitor a running session.

Desktop Remains the Full-Featured Option

Despite the expansion, Anthropic says the desktop app remains the more capable version. Features like direct access to local files are staying desktop-only for now. The mobile and web versions are designed more as companion tools for reviewing, approving, or kicking off tasks rather than replicating the full desktop experience.
